An introduction to playing Air Hockey

Air Hockey gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Score seven goals before the computer. Use the example below to understand a decision. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Move your paddle against a computer opponent and score through the opposite goal.

A small practice goal

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

The challenge in front of you

Score seven goals before the computer. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Start with a deliberate move.

The order of play

  1. Start.
  2. Move your mallet within the lower half.
  3. Strike toward the upper goal.
  4. Goals reset the puck.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Mouse/touch movement or Left/Right controls. Use the control method described here for this activity. A new-round button replaces the current round.

Try this example

An angled hit can bank off a side wall. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Notice the change in the playing area.

Where a round can go wrong

You cannot move into the computer’s half. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
